Thank you for your quick response. Per user manual, I understand "Listening" position is transient optimized minimum-phase filter. By updating to 5.30C, it will be replaced by new GTO filter.

please forgive my ignorance but im a little unsure of balanced cable configs.

im trying to use the 3.5mm balanced out on my ifi xdsd which i think is L+ R+ L- R-
the iem's are fiio fh5 with the balanced cable 2.5mm plug.

my main issue is the adapter to go to 3.5mm balanced and its pin wiring.. i dont know the tip config of the fiio cable balanced plug.

is it as below ??

i believe ive found it.. a fiio balanced cable is wired

as below so the adapter above should work on the ifi xdsd in balanced mode.

I just picked one of these up instead of a FiiO Q5 to replace a dying Alpen E17 at work. Glad I read the reviews before making this decision, I'm very happy with the xDSD. In fact, after about 2 hours of listening I actually enjoy it better than my NFB-11.28. The Burr Brown DAC is more musical than the ES9028, and the filters (3D+ & XBass are pretty great). It's definitely not as powerful as the NFB but for office listening it doesn't need to be.

Makes me think of selling the NFB in favor of a Micro BL

Yes, this checks out alright, we always aim at sound which is considered as musical and as far from artificial as possible.

I've settled on buying the xDSD as my new mobile dac, will do so in a few days and will report back my impressions!

The setting will be 50% mobile and 50% desktop use: I was thinking of buying a few accessories to better the sound while usb connected at home. My setting would be: macbook pro to xDSD to my amp.

With a budget of around 250 euros I was thinking of a IFI iUSB Power (used) plus a IFI iPurifier2 (or 3). This way I would take care of the power and the usb sides. Would those make a big difference? Would you suggest something else around that price?

This adapter works fantastically to output balanced on the ifi xdsd.
And wow.. in balanced mode the difference is immense..
Notably the soundstage opens up massively..
