iFi audio xDSD- The Official Thread

To get it fully balanced (S-Balanced) I can take a 3.5 mm 4 pole to 3.5 mm 4 pole interconnect cable and make the combination xDSD + xCAN fully balanced (S-Balanced)

Yes.

The 3.5 mm 4 pole (xDSD) to 2.5 mm 4 pole (xCAN) connection will not properly work since the level of the 3.5 TRRS signal of xDSD is not enough? Correct?

It won't work, 2.5mm is purely balanced.

@iFi audio Is that a correct pin out for the 3.5 mm TRRS of the xDSD?

Well. Yesterday I tried a converter for iBaso SR1 headphones with the iBasso CB15 cable that has a balanced 4.4mm plug to get the TRRS signal from the xDSD. Sound now is airier, but at the same time more metallic like and saturated (gets me memories of the ATH-50m). The difference is subtle, so maybe balanced is working, but the cable / converter are not ideal for this combo to get a better result or should a say a more to my like sound signature.

If some headphones are terminated with a 4.4mm or 2.5mm balanced male plug, would using a converter to 3.5mm TRRS work properly to get a balanced sound from xDSD to the headphones?

As long as pin out is correct, you're good.

Today I faced with a very strange behavior of the xDSD. Usually I listen to it wired but It was never a problem to switch to a Bluetooth.
I could not do it today, tried two Android phones, no result…it shows connected on both sides but no sound is coming out…until I switched the filter from Listen to Measure
So it sounds only with Measure filter on…Is that normal?

Would anyone know by any chance how long it should take to fully charge the xDSD from 0 to 75%/100% in either charging mode?

@iFi .. About your OTG adapters. Now that I purchased a Nano BL and an xDSD (to compare, one will have to go) I also started looking for the perfect OTG USB-C adapter to connect to my Note9. While designwise I found the iFi cable to be quite a beautiful match with the iFi headamps, unfortunately the USB-A plug is very loose and wobbly, leading to regular disconnects .. In comparison, the Apple OTG USB-C adapter is rock solid, doesn't move and even takes a bit more force connecting and disconnecting .. A very very solid and secure connection, without disconnects. An Audioquest Dragontail is now also on its way, but I did already hear from others that this OTG adapter also provides a very secure connection.

So my question is whether it is normal that the OTG USB-A plug is so wobbly, and if it is, whether you are considering a redesign?

It shouldn't be loose. Please shoot us a message here: http://support.ifi-audio.com/

Thanks!
