iFi Audio iOne official thread - There can be only one!

There is no direct preamp abilities like idsd if this is what you asking. However, you can control volume in Bluetooth mode or alternatively through the spdif input through a variety of choices :
Airplay, Amazon fire stick in combination with a suitable app etc. There are huge amount of available combination of configurations with this device. In my case, i could control volume through airplay> Apple TV
Amazon fire stick with
1) bubbleupnn app
2) kodi

The best audiophile situation for me was Amazon fire stick with kodi and tidal2 add-on through the TV to ione. However, the usb connection sounds better and with tidal exclusive mode you do not have volume control over sound. This device has plenty of configurations to play with.

My new set up with raspberry pi acting as a streamer through usb. Simply amazing considering the cost. Now I can power both raspberry pi and ione with one ipower. The spdif input reserved for the TV.

I upgraded also the RCA cable going with the chord c-line and the sound improved even further. With this set up I can also use the blue usb cable from ifi which I think is very good also. I will also add a jitterbug since in previous set ups I noticed a difference with it.

I am using WiFi with raspberry and this adds some noise but I can be bothered with Ethernet DC adapters at the moment.

Will iOne be able to control volume to analog RCA outputs or is it simply a pure 2V out?

Fixed 2V standard output.

Will the iOne sound better than my TEAC UD-501?

Our policy prevents us to comment this one. The iOne in many ways is our take on a dedicated desktop version of the iDSD nano, but adding S/PDIF with jitter killing memory buffer as well as Bluetooth with aptX & AAC and jitter killing memory buffer.

The analogue stage is improved on the iDSD nano with lower distortion and noise, but designed mainly for line out.

I am assuming this device needs a constant 5V, meaning it doesn't have a battery

That is correct. Instead the iOne is equipped with our proprietary Active Noise Cancellation based on the same feature used in the iDAC 2 micro and also found in iUSB 3.0 nano and iPower.

Lastly, when we are ready to buy the extended range unit, will the regular versions be still carried by vendors? Just have to be careful and make sure online vendors have updated product details.

The Extended Range iOne supersedes the original. It also includes a 5v USB power supply. As this was something people asked for and we could fulfill. We think most would like to have the extended range and power supply for the same price as the original!

Thank you for answering all of my questions. I am excited to get one of these. I can see a lot of use for this device.

Would there be a iFi Micro iOne in the near future as well? I can see all this tech going into an even higher end iOne model or somehow makes its way into a iFi Micro iDSD BL-BT or B-L/T :)

It is good to know that when these become available from places like MusicDirect, Amazon, BH Photo, etc. that the standard version will be the extended version.

We just launched the iONE and then did the ER version. But our drawing board is full of many projects, that's a given!

Hi there! I'm new to Head-Fi and, in many ways, and audiophile neophyte. I've recently been looking for a good DAC to pair with an integrated amp with few to no digital inputs (like the 2017 Rega Brio or the Heed Elixir) and had been circling the drain on a Cambridge Audio DACMAGIC Plus with the optional BT100 bluetooth antenna. Then, a few weeks ago, I stumbled upon the ifi Audio ione and have been a bit smitten. Never more than when I found this thread and saw them address the bluetooth reception issues in short order.

All that said, I'm curious if I'm even barking up the right tree here. To my untrained mind (and presuming the iOne's bluetooth connectivity issues are in fact corrected), the iOne and the DacMagic Plus do the same things. Experts, am I right or wrong in this assessment? And if that's indeed the case, which do folks think will do the job better? Thanks, everyone, for this very informative thread and for any forthcoming responses.

I have the DAC magic xs usb stick first generation which is not as good as my dragonfly v1.2 usb DAC which is not as good as ione. My opinion is that the biggest sound improvement from ione is coming from reclocing/regenaration cleaning DC input signal abilities. The ione DAC is great as well. I personally would go definitely for the ione based on my past experience but I never heard the DAC magic plus so I am not sure how exactly compares with my dacmagic stick or if it much superior than the stick which in that case I would be wrong with my opinion.

My understanding is that the dacmagic is an older generation of DAC in comparison with the ione. But again would be a mistake to see ione as a DAC only. It can be seen as a purifier and this is one of the strongest points for me. This is why I used a raspberry pi as streamer along with the usb input of ione in order to replicate microrendu abilities (and even more since I am using WiFi). I just did that so I am still playing with the settings but this seems to add so much convienience into my system that I am forgetting about Bluetooth.

Thanks for your reply, Rafaelo. Much appreciated. I think the DacMagic Plus is a pretty solid upgrade over the DacMagic USB stick. For example, I believe one of the features of the Plus is that it has two DACs in it. One for each channel.

Maybe this is just what i am looking for, a dac uppgrade to my tv. I always listen to headphones (hd650) with my tv, and headphone amp musical fidelity xcan v3. I tried a hugo before but wasent to happy with the sound for the money and dident think it was that big of an improvment over my much much cheaper dac fiio do3k for $20. And the hugo sounded harsher with sss sounds in the dialog when whatching netflix streaming content that dont always have the best audio quality. Fiio dosent have that problem.

So i am wondering is this more soft sounding with the s in the dialogue when whatching streamed content that dont always have the best audio quality. Maybe ifi has thought about this and tuned the sound right for the usage.
And why should i get this instead of the ifi idsd bl surely that has got to have a better dac then the ione? I rarely just sit and listen to music in general or files with high quality i some times stream music on youtube and spotify free with chromecast or the built in smart tv apps maybe i make it spotify premium one day , so i guess if ione is more apologetic to lesser audio quility and not as harsh as i imagine bl could be to lesser audio quality because its maybe to reveling and detailed and bright, even if bl is a better dac the ione would be the better choice for me if its softer sounding. I wouldent mind getting a bl though if its a better dac and not harsh with lesser audio quality like youtube, netflix and chromecast streaming can have.

What i am using now, does the job really well for the price you pay.

Just FYI everyone, our iOne is a number one seller in Japan. Folks from this part of the world really like it!

I really enjoy it too ... its just my geographical location that marred my experience. However, SQ is brilliant in the iOne.
