iFi Audio iGalvanic3.0 - The Holy Grail of Audio
Aug 31, 2017 at 10:44 PM Post #226 of 745
In my setup, I preferred RUR over Regen. Then Nano USB3.0 came along, making my system sound bright for one long month. Afterwards, perhaps due to proper break-in, the iFi Nano helped produce a 3D, top to bottom balance, SQ.

The iGalvanic3.0 will require the same 200 - 300 hours of break-in to achieve it's fullest performance just as ever other iFi product and every other electronic audio product out there.

IFI,

As a owner of the micro - iUSB3.0 idecided to take advantage of the deal you have on amazon for the iGalcanic3.0.

Because i am in Canada i cannot order from amazon u.s. So i contacted a dealer in Canada(Planet of sound) and asked about the
iGalvanic and was told the following

"I have been in touch with my distributor about the new iFi Nano iGalvanic 3.0 and while they do not have stock currently, they do expect to be receiving stock sometime within the next few months."

Say What? A few months..... So i am unable of take advantage of the deal you are offering. Does this mean I'm SOL...

Just wanted to update.

IFI was nice enough to allow me to order the bundle through Amazon u.s. All is good.

Is there a warm up time for iGalvanic, or does it work optimally right away after powering up?
Experience with the iPurifier2 and iUSB3.0 suggests that there is definitely a warm-up period. About half an hour should see it performing fully.

The iFi stuff is not unique in this regard. All audio electronics sound their best after they've been playing for a while. Critical auditions should only be done after an hour of warm-up. There are exceptions that require even more - some Class T/D amps for example are recommended to be left on permanently for this reason.

Folks, here are some general tips in the iGalvanic3.0 case:

1) Use known good cables of correct specification. Generally speaking, those included with iFi products and / or good grade generics will be correct, but many audiophile cables are not correct in terms of specification.

2) Make all connections to iG3 and set the earth link switch as required. Make sure that the port chosen on the source is a fully USB standard compliant port.

3) Make the connection to the Source (PC, Mac etc.). Remember that USB negotiations and enabling/updating drivers etc. may take up 30+ seconds before a new device is operational after connection.

4) In most operating systems, the attached DAC will show up as a new device. So it may be necessary to re-set the audio configuration of the machine, of playback software etc.

5) Take your time, don't rush things and act systematically in tracing and correcting faults.

In addition, proper iGalvanic3.0 operation can't be guaranteed if this product is connected to a socket which isn't USB compliant. The same story is when one or both sides of the system float without earth connection. Earth Link switch set correctly is there to ensure reliable (or any) connection.

can you clarify what you meant by this? connecting iGalvanic to idefender is considered non usb compliant? then why is this bundled in the first place?

I don't recall reading that anywhere.

Where did you come by this idea?

All iFi USB products are fully USB compliant.

trying to get ifi to clarify on their post. anyway i replaced my idefender, the bundled idefender seems to be faulty/not able to handle the load downstream(igalvanic + my audient id14). It's good that it died and i can replace it with another piece. also i notice there's some material difference with new and old idefender stocks.

after listening to my igalvanic + idefender for about a week plus coming to 2, i prefer the sound with idefender powering the igalvanic and dac. sufficient burn in time is needed for both device to shine.

Our previous message was a reply given on a different forum, yet it's helpful and that's why we posted it here. Some context was missing.

The gist is that it's not our iDefender3.0 that might cause issues. But devices with USB bus power outputs below 5V +/-5% (as was the case in the post originally referred to, with 4.5V nominal) and hence not USB compliant, might not work.

FYI the faulty Idefender I had was outputting at 4.5v under load. The new one is around 4.79 under load which I think is much better. I'm using PortaPow usb meter.

We're glad that that you've sorted your issue out :beerchug:
