iFi Audio iGalvanic3.0 - The Holy Grail of Audio
Mar 28, 2017 at 1:10 PM Post #16 of 745
Same question. Similar to Intona with additional benefits?

Well that's only up to usb 2.0? Right? I've seen other products that use usb 1.1 for galvanic isolation. It sounds like Ifi totally redesigned it there own way. I'm still waiting for Ifi to release some usb 3.0 cables even though I just got some high end split usb 2.0 cables. I think it would fun to do an a/b comparison of a usb 2.0 cable Ifi audio system vs full usb 3.0 Ifi system with 3.0 cables.

Part 3: How do the iGalvanic3.0 and iUSB3.0 fit together?

Most, who require the ‘holy grail’ of galvanic isolation, will use the iGalvanic3.0 stand-alone. Using the analogy of adding an external clock to a DAC, the micro iUSB3.0 compliments the iGalvanic3.0 in a similar vein.

Add the micro iUSB3.0 to the iGalvanic3.0 for those who wish for the last 5%-10% of sound improvement and additional enhancement options:

1.   The absolute quietest power supply AND
2.   Dual-headed outputs for audio + power transmission via Gemini USB cable AND
3.   Dual-ports: for dedicated SSD/HDD and DAC transmission lines

For the absolute perfectionist with a reference class, money-no-object system with a +US$10,000 DAC striving for the absolute zenith and wishing to squeeze out the last drop of performance from their system, we recommend complimenting the iGalvanic3.0 with the micro iUSB3.0. This adds additional benefits outside of the scope of the iGalvanic3.0, such as Dual-Ports and a noise floor of 0.1uV(0.0000001V).

The iGalvanic3.0 doesn’t really compare to others.

Other USB galvanic isolation devices are limited to Full Speed (12 Mbps) and Low Speed (1.5 Mbps) transmission.

By comparison the iGalvanic3.0 represents the next generation as it is capable of transmitting USB Hi-Speed (480 Mbps) and USB3.0 Super-speed (5Gbps) as well as the lower speeds while providing full galvanic isolation of both the data and the power/ground lines.

Where others have stopped at USB2.0 galvanic isolation, we started with USB3.0 galvanic isolation and absolutely turbocharged the device for the ultimate in USB audio:

1.   USB3.0 galvanic isolation and specified it for high-performance computer audio only
2.   REclock2/REgenerate2/REbalance2 stages
3.   Power Station: Stealth Converter –ultra low-noise, regulated USB power throughout

Summary

We hope you enjoyed reading through the technical notes on how the iGalavnic3.0 came to fruition. For any and every USB computer audio user, the sonic improvement is not subtle. With its dedicated USB3.0 isolation developed from the ground-up for computer audio and Grounding settings, it is ready to be perfectly dialed into any and every computer audio system with advancements that others just do not have.

It really is the holy grail of USB audio.

Features

•   Galvanic isolation of the USB bus (compliant with USB 3.0 & 2.0 at all Speeds (up to 5GBit/s) and all transfer modes)
•   Supports High-Resolution Audio beyond 32Bit/768kHz and DSD512
•   Embedded REclock2/ REgenerate2/REbalance2 technologies
•   Discrete ultra low-noise high current linear regulator for isolated power output
•   Aircraft-grade aluminum enclosure shields EMI/RFI
•   Power Station: powered by USB bus, super low-noise yet no separate power supply required
•   Transparent to host and device without added latency
•   Wide compatibility with all operating systems (works out of the box, no drivers needed)

The Intona supports USB Hi-Speed (480 Mbps). Any isolator that supports USB 2.0 Audio has to support USB Hi-Speed (480 Mbps).

Would be nice if buyers of both Galvanic 3.0 and micro iusb 3.0 get a promotional discount. And yes, I'm a happy user of iSilencers (4), DC Purifiers (2), and iPurifier2.

So as I understand connecting iDefender to iUSB 3.0 makes no difference in anything beacuse iUSB 3.0 already does everything that iDefender offers, iSOGround for breaking ground loops and ultra quiet power, so there is no reason to do such combination right?

Asking beacuse one of riviewers in my country that I considered really credible wrote a riview of iDefender in combination with iUSB 3.0 and stated that it makes significant difference... which I consider in this situation to be a hit in his reputation.

But if thats true then what is the reason to combine iDefender with iGalvanic just like in one of your proposition? Its still all very confusing.

Are you sure he didn't confuse the Isilencer with the Idefender? If not, I know the Idefender will compliment the nano iusb 3.0 since it lacks the ISO ground unlike the micro iusb 3.0 which does do everything. Yea I'd agree with you if its the Idefender with the micro iusb 3.0 there's no point. Combining the iDefender with iGalvanic the IDefender feeds a cleaner usb signal and gets rid of a lot of issues with its ISO ground, but not all of the issues. The remaining issue can only be solved with galvanic isolation.

All of this confusion about iFi's product line is one of the primary reasons that I never bought any of their products.  It got really too confusing for me, too much overlap.

GHoldridgeYeah it was iDefender with Micro iUSB 3.0, thank you for making me 100% sure. However are you sure that iDefender gives cleaner power than iGalvanic? Beacuse iDefender can be powered from iPower which has 1uV noise floor and iGalvanic has power supply with 0.5uV noise floor.

Well at least for supplying power the IGalvanic gets its power from the usb line from what it seems. So having the IDefender would at least supply the IGalvanic cleaner power than a USB port .

We certainly would not assert that the iDefender makes no difference when connected to iUSB 3.0. Only iUSB 3.0 micro has iSOGround, the nano has not and depending where iDefender is inserted it may help even with an iUSB 3.0 micro with iSOGround engaged.

While seemingly simple, USB Audio is a complex system with much potential for unpredictable interactions. This is why there is not really a single piece solution and why often solutions need to be tailored to a specific system.

USB is in the AMR/iFi DNA
Over a decade of development

Our newest and one of our most ‘challenging’ USB products, the iGalvanic3.0 has stirred interest in the technology it possess. The following article sheds light on how we arrived at the iGalvanic3.0. It was certainly not our ‘first USB rodeo.’

2006. A long time ago in an audio sector far, far away…
Back in 2006 when AMR first launched the CD-777 Reference Class cd player, it was one of, if not the first to feature a USB input – just switch to ‘DAC’ mode, connect a laptop and enter the world of computer audio.

At the heart of the CD-77 beats the king of the MultiBit chipsets - the Philips TDA1541A. We have stockpiled these, the most rare and sought-after of ALL DAC chipsets. We believe we hold the world’s last remaining stock of several thousand pieces. We are holding them in reserve for something special, someday. Just like a vintage bottle of Dom Perignon, they are a great long-term investment.

Picture of some of our inventory of TDA1541As

Back in January 2007, at CES, we believed we were one of, if not the first, to showcase the CD_77 at the heart of Computer Audio System (CAS).

We had a laptop running Winamp feeding the CD-77 with a HTC Athena ‘e-Bible’ as remote control!

http://www.amr-audio.co.uk/html/24th_Jannuary_2007.html#q13

We were already demonstrating computer audio using a Smartphone as the remote source six months PRIOR to the launch of the iPhone!

Incidentally, this was the first time we had come across ‘IZ’.  His cover of ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’ was bewitching. We played the FLAC file during the rest of the show and everyone assumed it was a CD being spun on the CD-77!

More to come, 2008 and beyond…
