Who knows, but please tell me why you wouldn't like to see a headphone out in that product. Is there any specific reason :) ?
While I'm no longer looking for a dac. The answer is: To have all the money spent on making it the best DAC you can, without any money wasted on a pot or headphone socket and headphone section. Save money for end user(where most don't need the built in headphone amp and will probably never use it, even your own range is made with the idea of using external headphone amp, so why have it in a dac) or put it toward making the DAC section better.
Nowadays it is almost impossible to find a pure DAC.
Pretty sure that a lot of us would like to see, is the end of this trend of selling all in one DAC amp, where the amps are always compromised and relatively week, just give us pure DACs with line out's that's it.

We have that already

I hear you and thanks for your feedback, but ZEN Air DAC wouldn't be any better as a pure DAC. Its headphone amp and the entire output stage are the same circuit, so the difference between this product as is and it made only as a DAC would be primarily functional. Thanks :)

This is not about the Zen series, but about a new DAC of better performance without headphone amplifiers and with a competitive price.

OK, so you meant the best DAC we can make regardless its cost, but only a DAC and nothing else?

No, but only a DAC with a USB and SPDIF (optical and coax) inputs and a competitive price.

Thanks and understood, but ZEN Air DAC as is wouldn't be any better as a DAC only and it'd most likely be priced similarly. Also, most users find headphone outs in their DACs useful and, although we try, we can't please everyone :)

Same here, we're looking forward to what users have to say :)
@iFi audio can you tell us is the the X-Bass on the new Air-Dac the same excellent "X-Bass" that's on the original Zen-Can or is it the heavier "True-Bass" that's on the original Zen-Dac that's too strong a boost for most music ?

Let me ask internally about that, but I'm pretty sure that our ZEN Air DAC inherited its bass booster from ZEN DAC, thanks!
