650 for sure, X2 is better for gaming but the 650 is more refined for music. There is a reason the current "golden standard" for reference cans is the 600/650 and not the X2

HD650 is $315.99 today. Personally, I think it is probably worth the extra thirty bucks when you evaluate the overall performance of the two headphones. That's just me, YMMV, of course.

i wouldve bought the 650s but i want bass and i am willing to lose some clarity for it. im not mixing or anything strictly for recreation.

My current setup produce enough bass quantity for the 6xx even though it can't go as far as lcd2 low end; but, I don't feel like it's lacking in bass even though it does feel thin sometimes.

HD650's mid-bass is slightly boosted.
Fidelio X1/2 mid-bass is really boosted.

The right pick depends on your preferences.
HD650 (amp or not) is a much more refined headphone in the sense that it sounds more true to life with proper recordings.
Whether you care for that or not is up to you and your recordings. Some recordings are not designed to sound true to life anyway.

I have the m50x the hd598 and dt990 pro and they all sound fine but from everything I have seen online the x2s sound better so im returning my m50 and dt990. I simply do not have the heart to return my hd598s just cant.

If the x2s dont live up to the hype they will be gone as well. then i will probably be stuck between the hifimans 400/500 or the hd650s then make a thread about it lol
