Artur Schnabel's Diabelli Variations by Beethoven. It's the Mount Everest of piano literature.

Just one...has to be Dylan's "John Wesley Harding"...I had no idea an album could flow from start to finish this well...if you like folk rock (or Dylan) this one stands on top for me.

I was gonna say Revolver, but that's been mentioned several times.

IMO this is almost it reincarnated in another light (IMO has the level of dynamicism in songwriting)

Pixies - Doolittle

one album, to be recommended without knowing anything about the one i'm recommending it to? has to be something accessible, of highest possible quality, with a degree of timelessness... emotionally charged, good recording..., easily likeable and growing on you, shining and deep.

The Beatles- Abbey Road.
Sure everyone's probably already heard it, but it's so rich and varied musically, and it's one that pays off to really listen to than just be acquainted with.

To me my one album for the island would be:

Dream Theater - Awake

Best and standard setting progressive metal album in my opinion. So tight, powerful, varied, aggressive, soft, emotional... you have everything in one package. Also you have drums god Mike Portnoy at his best. I have listed to it approx. 1000 times and never got tired.
