I have Cinemascope, Gravity, Interstate, Momentum, and Polygon Cities but not HongKong. They are good but don't put me into the drone zone like David Sylvian's Gone To Earth does.

I'll hold off on other suggestions because I don't approve of others for must-haves yet, but if you want some more, get ahold of me

Thom Brennan - Vibrant Water

Monolake is techno, sometimes with an ambient bend.

Robert Henke's work as Robert Henke is ambient. I'm not too fond of it, though - I find it rather cold and academic. I prefer ambient to be organic and colorful, like Alio Die.

Yea, I have the original 2-CD French release and it's really a nice one. More on the trip hop side than ambient I think, but it does all kind of blend together these days.

William Basinski - Disintegration Loops I - III
Maybe not the clearest ambient albums but they work similarly and very well!

Speedy J - Ginger
Susumu Yokota - Sakura
Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works

or

Global Communication - 76:14
FSOL - Lifeforms
The Orb - U.F. Orb (Vinyl)

Ozric's Tentacles are psychedelic rock not ambient.

Huh? Your saying you don't approve of Eno and David Sylvian?

I wouldn't call them techno, IMO they fall under minimalist electronic music. Techno is a more dance orientated style of electronic music. Think 808 State.

Only 3 ! ...thats not fair, but great thread.

Biosphere - Geir Jenssen: Substrata

AFX - Richard D. James: Selected Ambient Works II

and my own compilation of Autechre´s best ambient tracks.

Contenders without beats:

Base Communion (Vayrajana EP), Sleep Research Facility (NOSTROMO), Deathprod, Stars of The Lid (Tired Sounds), GAS (every single album), Dominic Woosey (Recycle Or Die), Oophoi, Rapoon (and other bands with many o´s),... These are the ones I keep returning to for quality ambient experiences.

Contenders with beat structures:

Monolake (yes Hong Kong!), POLE (1-3), Basic Channel Dub Mixes, Deepchord Presents Echospace (The Coldest Season), a lot of Beatservice.. (Scandinavian label), H.I.A., Mind Over Midi (Ice Acoustik), Mordant Music (The Tower), The Orb (so much.. Aubrey Mixes, Terrarum), FSOL... (Dead Cities, ISDN)

Cheers everyone and thanks for the tips. Great taste in ambient here and lots of it that I havent heard

No.

Monolake is QUINTESSENTIAL techno. Not every song does well on a dancefloor, but dancefloor-compatibility hasn't been a criterion of techno for decades. Just ask Basic Channel.

808 State is NOT techno.

"Minimalist" as applied to electronic music is nearly as meaningless as the word "Experimental" when applied to rock music. Besides, as far as electronica goes, Monolake is not very minimal. Robert Henke's solo work, however, is.

Sorry if I'm coming across as a bit rough, but I don't like to see misinformation propogating about my favorite genres.
