I am going to be receiving a gift card for my broken ATH-M50s that I bought Pro Coverage on (Yeah....I was sort of dumb 2 years ago when I first joined, but it actually is paying off) and will be receiving a $120 gift card.
 
I'm getting into recording my friends and such so I have a mixer and sometimes if it's too loud with my open headphones I'll get horrible feedback (rare but happens) and I just want something to isolate pretty well.
 
My only closed cans right now are my ATH-ES700, but I don't want to put them through much abuse, thin cables and not as easily fixed I think not to mention probably not comfortable for a long while.
 
Sort of regret selling my DT770s...haha I didn't like the sound signature a lot but they would of been great to keep around.
 
So what do you think I should get for like under $200 (I'll price match and they pretty much even price-match those unauthorized retailers (that's how I got my M50s a bit cheaper)

Of the ones on their list under $300 I would recommend the Shure SRH840 or the Beyer Custom One Pro. I have and enjoy both. The COPs really don't share a similar signature as the DT770. The bass adjuster is fun to play with too. I'm not going to sit here and do the old Headfi sound sig description because those can get lame. Both COP and 840 play almost anything very well and work out of any device.

Oops. Under $200. The COPs are 50 bucks more but you could probably find a match around $200.

Alright thanks yeah I think I'll go with the Beyers, or maybe I'll be a cheapskate and try the Sony 7506 first.
 
Sold the 770s and my 990s broke again.
 
Are they as comfy as the 990s or 770s?

Very comfy but they do not have the velour pads. I prefer pleather-leather personally though. You could always swap the pads but this may change the sound somewhat. I have not tried this myself.

Oh and the Sony 7506 are very good and there are somewhat more refined in their price range such as the Shure 440s and Senn HD280. The 7506 are definitely more portable though and have a nice comfort level all their own.

Yeah I think when I get my gift card (probably will be a few weeks or so) I'll get the 7506 and just test it out.  Wish that $150 Beyer COP would last longer so I could price match it in a few weeks but oh well.

Damn you got me I think I might just jump on the $150 COPs in white and just save my gift card for other stuff down the line.

I actually broke them twice both times I messed up the left Driver.  First time was during soldering, and then recently the cable got pulled and it ripped out the driver connection along with the hairthin wire again.  If I do it again I'll be sure to actually epoxy it so it stays in place and stays strong.
 
I rewired it and made them purple here I'll show you a pic of what they looked like before they were destroyed and now being sold for parts.
 

 
The I used too thick of a cable and just didn't glue it inplace so stress just ripped out the wire.

SRH840, but look into DT250 and COP too. Forget the Sony (too bright, shallow earcups). Best luck!
