If the Ultrasone PRO 550 uses the same exact drivers as the HFI-580 with bigger cups, why does it have less bass?

OK audio engineers so I have HFI-580s in the mail after hearing about their awesome bass.
My problem is I don't really like the look and personally, I'm a big fan of giant, huge, phones, not just swiveling "DJ-sized" phones.

I just read this courtesy of Ultrasone:

"The PRO 550 (formerly the PROline 550) builds on the immensely popular HFI-580 (formerly the HFI-550) to create a professional headphone that is both durable and versatile. Tight and powerful bass plus precise and detailed instrument placement is given. Featuring the same 50mm Mylar driver able to crank out lots of volume and punch, the PRO 550 also includes detachable cables and ear pads."

So... If the PRO 550 is just bigger, plusher HFI-580s then why does everyone seem to say the 580 is a bass monster and the 550 is a bass weakling? I'm confused.

Hey machoboy,

Good choice on the 580s. The anxiousness of you receiving them is driving you crazy. Lol

Enjoy them and don't look back. Different sigs and models within Ultrasone- HFI-580--HFI-680--HFI-780...PRO550-- PRO650-- PRO750-- PRO2500 (open). etc...etc.

Many models to choose from to make everyone happy. IMO, I have yet to listen to an Ultrasone that lacks bass and I own a couple pairs.

Just my .02

Cheers!!!
