Just thought id liven up the thread as it's just a big list of many different cans. My recommendation is to get so HF-1s and be done. Couldn't ask for more from a can (except woodying).

I really enjoyed the K701 at the meet on Saturday. So much so that it looks to be my next headphone.

Is 226 a good price for the dt880? And is 130 a good price for the k501?

Yes to both questions.

All this Sennheiser bashing is a bunch of crap - I find the 595's a very well balanced can. They have a fairly forward presentation with a sound that sounds pretty neutral to my ear, but is not "laid" back, although I havent heard a 600 or 650 to compare to them. They aren't boring cans and from what I hear they are a very different animal from the dark/reference sonic signature of the 580/600/650's. That being said, I always hear good things about AKG K701s. Personally I have no desire to upgrade from my 595's (well, someday I'm going to get a top end Audio Technica set). Try the phones with a better source if you can, although the pa2v is good for the price.

I am the complete opposite of one side of this thread. I've had the 600, 595, 501 and 880 and two stayed and two didn't. Don't get me wrong I like the 501's and 880's but they both had things that they did very well but they also had glaring faults. If you can pitch a tent over the things they did well then I suppose you could simply look over everything they failed on and I found the 600/595's more balanced and all round proformers. I think the problem with this thread is someone pitching way too big a tent and making definitive statements over a subjective opinion. Does this mean that a lot of people wont like the <insert absolutely any headphone known to man here> better? No...good luck finding what you like the best and hopefully sharing what you have found with others in a helpful manner.
