my audigy2zs pcmcia card still work?

The devices I'm considering are:
m-audio audiophile (firewire or usb)
m-audio transit

I play games and so I like the audigy card for taht but want an upgrade on sound quality...eventually I hope to plug the m-audio device into a nice DAC, but for now itll go straight into an amp.

I can only say I've heard good things about the quality of the Audiophile usb as a usb to s/pdif converter. It's power is derived externally which is supposed to be superior to usb voltage line. If you eventually use it with a DAC, upgrading some of the power supply caps and parts will get you a nice signal.

Not exactly what you're asking, but I have two PCI soundcards installed in my PC, running Windows 2000. No problems at all, you can usually configure the software you're using and point it towards the card you need. I use an old Turtlebeach for basic Windows and MP3 playback through my crap PC speakers, whereas I use my M-Audio 2496 for Midi, inbound recording, headphone listening etc. Works great.
