Simple is not bad when implemented correctly. K.I.S.S. is a good mantra.

EQing tends to be good or bad depemding on the capability of the EQ. 30-band EQ >>> 3-band EQ. The artificial sound is a byproduct of a course, low band EQ.

I didn't notice that. Msrp is pretty meaningless, though. Also, I think the er-4 competes very well with iems in it's price range. At the same time, I think it does get overhyped on head-fi.
