My friends use sony EX-81, shure e2c on their iPods, however, they crank up the volume to 50-60%. But for me, I used ER6i with my iPod, I just listened to maybe 5-10% of the volume in a noisy environment. Why is that so, is it because the low impedance and higher sensitivity of ER6i?

Another weird thing is, my friend uses his e2c with his notebook, he can listen to 10% of the volume, is his iPod not enough juice to drive the e2c?

All listening without an amp.

Thanks.

That is factually incorrect - iPods have one of the highest power outputs of all the portables.
WRT EX81/E2C/ER6i - higher sensitivity and better isolation with the Etys.
Also, 10% on a notebook won't correspond to 10% on an iPod.

I used to have the Sony NC-11 noise-cancelling set, but recently purchased the ER4ps. With the Sonys (without the noise-cancelling on), I had my 1st gen iPod at 70-90%, and the same goes for the stock iPod buds, but I'm happy with listening at 15-30% now, with the ER4s.

The do block a lot of outside noise, and I'm less afraid for my hearing now.
