Theyre open design so you will be able to hear everything around you, while your podcast or music will play on top of it all. Theyre of course not exactly a flat response, and the timbre is off, but they are by far the best ive seen for podcast and excersize activity.

I ended up going with the Sony MDR-EX310.  The EX71 served me well so I figured I'd give Sony another shot.  I'll report back with my results.
