Hello.  I found this site while searching for a good replacement for my $30 sony earphones that broke.  I was reading the threads about IEMS with a wide soundstage but many are either out of my price range or discontinued.  The consensus on head-fi seems to be that the Seinheiser IE8 have the most articulate soundstage but they are too expensive for me.  The TF10 was also recommended but still a little out of range.  The Fischer Eterna's seem like what I'm looking for but before I order from Russia, I wanted to get some opinions and advice cause I may have missed something.

I'll be listening from a sansa clip zip or a 5th gen ipod video.
Mainly listening to music like Tool, Massive Attack, Flaming Lips, Hilight tribe, Shpongle, Led Zeppelin, Velvet Underground, and also some experimental music/soundscapey stuff like Carbon Based Lifeforms and Tipper.  Also I enjoy live albums and punk music recorded with mostly room mics, like "In Utero"'s first mixes where it sounds like you are in the room when they recorded.

Basically looking for a deep listening experience that will highlight the separation and placement of the sounds in the stage and articulate the instruments.  It may be a lot to ask under $100 but worth a try.  Thanks for the info in advance and all the info on the site.  It helped a lot.

Not sure what others'll say, but you can get a Ultimate Ears 700 from Amazon for about $94 now. The durability is questionable though, but at least you can file for warranty if they break. A slight step down from the TF10 with only 2 armatures per side, yes, but I suppose (grain of salt) they'd work for you.

Thanks, glad I posted, these didnt come up in my hunt.  Hard to get a good read on the soundstage though because some describe it as "tall, not so wide", "decent", and "most detailed iem I've heard."  A few are unhappy because they feel the highs are shrill.  A tall soundstage is very appealing because I like the dynamics of the quiet, loud, quiet songs, should have mentioned that.

They're only $20 more than what the Eterna's would cost.  Have you (or anybody) had the chance to listen to them both and compare?

If you want really wide soundstage, the best I have tried is the sony ex600, they are a bit over your budget but have been the closest IEM with a soundstage of a pair of cans. I  have not tried the IE8s, but reviews have said that it is still king for soundstaging.

Thanks, something like this is what I'm looking for.  Seems very comparable to the ie8s but out of my price range.  Also learned of the JVC fxt90 that seems pretty good too, but also over $100.  I guess its either the Eternas, UE700 or spend some extra dollars for the sonys or jvc.. not sure if its worth it though because the Eterna is at such a better price and has the reputation for being dynamic and wide..  Wish i could just listen to all of them with a shpongle track on and see which is a more fun listen..

It's up to your ears to decide which is the better one in the end, not ours. What one man hates, can be another man's treasure. Honestly, I haven't heard a great deal of IEMs but I think the ones listed here are all worth a shot. If you find that you don't like one, you can probably always return it and try something else.

I hear ya.  I think it may be hard to return the Eterna's because the only place to get them right now that I found is directly from Russia.  I'm going to keep the ~$100 idea and choose between the Eterna and UE700.  Thanks for making me aware of the UE700.  I just hope the cable issue is fixed, my sony's broke 3 times because of the cheap cable and I kept having to exchange them.
