Can I suggest buying the most expensive pair you can, selling it on ebay for a $10 or so loss, and then paying the extra for the PL50? It is a bit elaborate, but if you would not enjoy the Sony IEMs anyway, why not?

I bought the s639 walkman a while back, and the stock IEM's where considerably better than regular iPod earbuds. They're slightly muddy and less detail oriented, but overall not a horrible pair of IEMs.

I can't compare them to any other sony headphone, as I don't have experience with any other model.
