Hi everyone-- Yesterday I brought home a pair of Ety HF5s and spent about an hour listening. The tips that proved the most comfortable turned out to be the gliders, the round rubbery things, and I was impressed by the clarity of the sound. When I took a look in the mirror, I noticed that the left IEM was sticking out quite a bit further than the right, so I pushed it in a bit.

After listening, I noticed that my left ear felt kind of blocked. I put on a pair of over-the ear phones, and noticed that the center fill had moved all the way to the right. The hearing in my left ear is now severely diminished and music sounds muffled. There's no pain, so I'm assuming I didn't perforate the eardrum. I cleaned my ears with Qtips before inserting the phones, but I'm wondering whether some hardened wax is blocking the ear canal. In any case, I'm pretty concerned. Has anyone had a similar experience? Can anyone shed some light on my poor ear?

Thanks in advance,
Deaf in Brooklyn

it would be pretty much impossible to push the glider tp into the ear canal to damage your ear so i wouldnt worry, most likely you push ear wax into your ear....go to ear specialist if it continues

Yeah, i second that. Oh and don't put q tips in your ear, you could damage your eardrum of push wax further in. But be on the safe side and book an appt. with an ENT. Feel better soon!

If you think it's earwax, here's a cheap and safe solution. Go to your local drug store and pick up a bottle of 3% Hydrogen peroxide. Lay on your side, and pour about a capful into your ear. Let it sit for about 10-15 min and then go drain your ear. Repeat for the other.

Good luck.

I have tinnitus for years now, it's something you don't want to get, I would strongly suggest to see an audiologist and do a hearing test (although many only go up to 10khz) You should give your ears some rest if it turns out not to be earwax. And don't max out the volume, depending on device and headphone/in-ear I don't go beyond 60-80% volume anymore.

You displaced hard wax

You just need to go out and get an ear cleaning solution.
If you damaged your ear drum you have felt an intense pain before noticing the sudden loss of hearing.
