I received a used SHP9500s in the mail today. I have seen people say/complain that they got a SHP9500 when they ordered a SHP9500s.
Is it possible to identify (only from the headphone) whether it is a S or not? Thanks.

Thanks HipHopScribe. Spec wise there is a minor difference. It seems like it may not be humanly possible to tell any difference from listening to them. I am curious if there is any label/marking etc that says which one it is.

newer 9500s (older 9500)
  • frequency response: 6-35000Hz (15-35000Hz)
  • sensitivity: 102dB (101dB)

Those frequency response numbers are meaningless on headphones, even if they were different you can't hear 6Hz or 15Hz (or 35000Hz for that matter), but they're not actually different, I'm sure you can measure 6Hz on either headphone with the right equipment, of course it's completely inaudible so listing it as a spec is just marketing bs and Philips decided to tweak their marketing specs for the S version. As for the sensitivity, 1db is basically a rounding error. The only difference between the headphones is the cable in the package.
