iCAN micro SE – (thanks to Meze - you guys are great!) Things are a rockin.

  Anyone ever hear radio stations through the iCan SE with nothing connected except headphones when the volume is turned all the way up or down (little no noise in the middle)?  Could be the hotel I'm at (13th floor in downtown Atlanta)... When I get home I'll test things more and see if it still does this.  Not sure if adding a second ferrite core near the power connector would help, but I suspect the noise is coming from the hotel's outlet.

However, the gimmicky cable that the LCD-4 came with doesn't appear to be shielded.  This was never an issue before when I was at home, but thought I'd mention it and see if others have had similar issues with non-shielded headphone cables picking up interference.  Too bad I didn't bring my HD800 to test as I'm pretty sure its cable is shielded.  Plan on making a shielded cable for the LCD-4 at some point.

Please let us know once your LCD-4 cable is done, that's interesting what you wrote.

I will try to recreate it with a transceiver, but I'm at home now and there is no radio interference here as I don't live in the city.

Really strange that it was that loud in the hotel but lots of buildings in Atlanta have towers on top.  If someone wants to map the towers, I was here: https://goo.gl/maps/67JWb18Y7UJ2

I forgot to say the micro iDSD had no interference with the headphones plugged in at the hotel, just the iCan SE.

There appears to be some reviews complaining of what sounds like interference though:

Gain = output / input

The iCAN SE power output is not limited by the gain setting. It's just another volume control. If you give it a loud enough input, it should output full power.

People obsess too much over these settings. The purpose of the gain switch is simply to give you a usable range on the volume control knob, that's all.

There is a big conception on the extreme bass club thread that having high gain improves the bass quantity at lower listening levels, what do you think of this idea?

I can think of no technical theory that might support such an idea other than serious non-linearity in the resistances used to form the volume and gain controls.

I would experiment and see if I could here a difference but I have a stinking cold so my hearing isn't terribly acute at the moment.

Interesting, I know it takes a lot of power to produce taction at subbass frequencies so it probably has to do with that. I'd probably have the pot maxed out on low gain before being satisfied when I go all out basshead. But yeah, for normal listening levels there doesn't seem to be an increased need for more power. If there is a difference, it's so subtle that I had to ask hah. Thanks!

Has anyone tried the se with the elears ? If so what is the best setting such as gain, bass boost etc?

The Elear is very sensitive. The 0dB gain setting will be plenty. In fact the Elear doesn't need iCAN SE at all. The standard iCAN would be just fine.

As to bass, that would depend on what you are listening to but in general the Elear seems to have plenty for most material but it's a matter of taste (and your hearing). It's nice to have the options. So many headphone manufacturers seems to think tone control or bass control is not needed. I suppose there is DSP EQ but we are talking high-end sound here and DSP sucks really.

Has anyone found a light weight rechargeable battery option for the IFi micro iCan SE TO MAKE IT TRANSPORTABLE? I travel and really think this amp has amazing synergy wth my QP1R DAP when paired with the HIFIMAN HE1000. In fact, it sounds as good as my home system using much more expensive DAC and amps. Has anyone else discovered this synergy??
