IC : K340 mod thread!

The truly brave with very good hand-eye co-ordination can try applying Bud Purvine's EnABL pattern to the dynamic driver, the baffle, and the housing itself. I've applied the EnABL process to my RS-1 and the results were pretty shocking, the noise floor goes way down and reveals many previously hidden details in the music.

Thanks for the input, for this time as well as all the previous times you've helped me. I suppose I'll just put this possible future project on the backburner or discard it altogether. I have other things to do first anyways, it's one of those final tweaks.

I can't wait for the AKG K340 all-inclusive mod thread you'll cook up, I'm sure it'll be fantastic.

Roam, I'm not quite I'm sure exactly what this EnABL pattern is. Could you possibly elaborate and explain what it does in simpler terms?

If it still happens... we've been waiting on the pads for a really long time and I think RedLeader has gotten impatient and begun modding them himself. Perhaps I will get a second pair at some point or someone else will be the guinea pig... we'll see.

In greatly simplified terms, it helps prevent resonances and helps dissipate the stored energy & move it out into the air & surroundings. In effect, it reduces the distortion of the driver.

As for what it is, it's a pattern of rectangles applied on the surface using something similar to enamel paint, there was a specific type to use but I can't recall it off the top of my head. Read through the patent information, and if you still have more question you can contact Mr. Purvine over at the diyaudio forums.
