Where the cable reaches the end of the plastic cover is weak, audio cuts out in one ear unless I keep it held down, I think that part of the cable has bent too much over time.

I thought I'd cut the cable and solder it back onto the plug but I can't remove the plastic cover at all. Any ideas on how I could fix this? I'll probably end up buying a replacement cable but it'd be a shame to waste this one.

(sorry didn't see the help section, can't remove this thread though)

In this particular case, I think I would want to cut off this connector completely and get a new 90 degrees 3.5mm or whichever you prefer and use a bit of heat shrink tubing to make it more resistant. Since you seem to be able to solder and all, that seems like the best thing to do to me.

I decided to buy a new cable as it was only $10 and would save a lot of time, but that heat shrink tubing is a great idea! That'll really help keep the cable from bending at the plug, it definitely won't happen again this way, thanks.
