Bought an iBasso d10 here and am delighted under XP, with Foobar.
 
That said, my workaday OS at home is Ubuntu 10.04 and the iB was not automatically recognized when I plugged it in this morning.
 
Anyone know what I can do to get everyone talking to each other?

Ok, I'm an idiot.
 
Once I got past the election, (I'm a journalist) and got a decent night's sleep I went back to the obvious - and I just hadn't configured the box's sound in's and outs to use the iB's usb.
 
So it's all good. Is there a script or utility that will let me switch the various settings as one step?

I would have try something more explicit:
 
aplay -l or aplay -L
in a terminal to list playback audio devices, you should see one mentionning USB Audio.
 
lsmod | grep snd or sudo lsmod | grep snd
in a terminal, that will show module (drivers) used by the kernel for audio, snd_usb_audio is used for USB sound devices.

The description for each device starts with:

It looks as if the beginning of the lsusb output was chopped off.
Anyway, that what's there looks perfectly OK.

That depends on what you mean with "various settings".
Mixer settings can be controlled with the amixer tool.
Where the information about which sound device to use is stored depends on the distribution and desktop environment.

It's interesting: I've used Linux on and off since the kernel was at .99 and downloading cost $65 over AOL - this would be late 92' or early 93.' I installed early Slackware, operated Yggdrasil, went through many iterations of Red Hat, SuSE, Mandrake/Mandriva/whatever (still have a soft spot for those folks), built three MythTV boxen.
 
However, I didn't make Linux my main "run it all the time" system at home until Ubuntu 10.04, which I run happily on a six year old laptop. (Since upgraded to 10.10.)
 
It's fast, clean and just works. But it's also making me lazy: I have zero appetite for operating in wizard mode (not that I was any good anyway) and am forever looking for the easy way out, which means the option that doesn't make me think, even a little.
 
So I installed the pulse audio control panel just now and it looks fine, though I'm faintly guilty I'm not working with amixer, just as I'm faintly guilty using rhythmbox rather than the network player.
 
Somehow in this, I think Linux has arrived for the desktop: it's now good enough to run thoughtlessly.
