@ HiFiChris.  Wow, you are thorough, sir.  I accept your explanation.  Thank you for shepherding this discussion the right way.

@ rubick.  Thanks.  So, some individual differences going on here.  I understand.

I'm definitely one of the folks experiencing audible hiss with my SE846. Kind of a bummer, especially in light of how I had no such issue with the DX90. So using my IE800 instead, which still has hiss at 0 volume but it's not audible when playing music and the pairing is very good.

New frustrated owner here...

Copied the new firmware onto my micro but keep getting this. What do I do?

There is an issue with upgrading from firmware 1.1.2.  The only way you can successfully upgrade is:

(1) For updating from V1.1.2, the SD card has to be FAT32 or FAT format.
(2) The card has to be in slot 2.

I had exactly the same problem and the solution I've posted was received from iBasso.  Apparently only 1.1.2 is afflicted by this issue.

HTH and happy listening!

Pete

Have you try to format your micro to format fat32?
I pick up my dx80 from local store, and its already installed latest fw (1.1.4).
So far i have no issues regarding search issue.

My problem with the the library not getting imported seems to be SD card related. The problem card is a cheap sandisk 128gb. (yes, I believe it to be authentic). I tried a Samsung sd card, 64gb, that was in my Galaxy S5 phone, it works fine. Can anyone recommend a 128gb sd card that is working well in your DX80? Again, the issue I'm having is that files don't all get imported into the library but I can browse them in the directory.

I'm using 2 x 128GB Sandisk and both are fine. Maybe you just had a faulty one.

I cannot detect any hiss on the DX80 no matter how hard I try to listen for it. I am starting to wonder if its my hearing.

Apparently impedance and the sensitivity matters, I can't hear any when music is paused, but when it's in*play* it is very auditable, on all types of files

I doubt it. I think it is some of the IEM's and I don't have the ultra sensitive ones. I have the JH13Pro FreqPhase that were just updated and hear nothing and I can hear to 16 to 17khz but the hiss would be below that frequency.

For those who are reporting "hissing", would be good to know which headphones you are using and if the hissing is the same on L/R sides.  With some low impedance high sensitivity headphones hissing is normal, will depend on DAPs amp section implementation, and will vary from DAP to DAP.  Some DAPs and dedicated amp have a better noise floor suppression (black background) while others don't.  In theory this hissing will affect a small group of headphones, while less noticeable with majority of others.  Also, sometime it's impossible to tell how your source and headphones will pair up, in terms of hissing level, until you actually try it out.

try phone app call SD Insight to check if the card is real or fake.

It's crazy, the more side by side I do with the dx90, it's rather similar then different, dx80 is not fatiguing to me, dx90 2.3.0 was fatiguing in certain peaks, dx80 is warmer I guess,

I do feel that warm sound takes away *fidelity*

I'm starting to see that *warmth* is accompanied by lower clarity, listening with se846 (white filters) which are bright in nature
