Yes but last I read the 9038pro has 3x the power consumption of the 9028pro.

That is correct, and we are only talking about ES9028Pro that is implemented on the Dx200. If Ibasso pulled that off, there is no reason to not be able to do with AK4497EQ dual. Therefore, I don’t believe about implementation that limited Ibasso.

More than likely that Ibasso do not want to step on toes

Why not though?

Jesus guys...because that's how they made it. With the chips that they contracted to buy. This armchair manufacturing quarterbacking is tedious.

To add to the thing, I don't think that DX200 is slow either, it is pretty much as quick as any other DAP I had, and quicker than many other DAPs I'd say :)

I agree George...my DX200 isn't slow at all. One of the things I was comparing at the NYC CanJam was other peoples DAP's when they came over to the iBasso booth was the responsiveness. The DX200 was right up there with all them. No noticeable differences. Now, we're used to our DX200's...so...that might have something to do with our perception.

Just checked the price of the AK4497EQ

https://www.eciaauthorized.com/en/part/akm-semiconductor/AK4497EQ

1 for $52.53
10 for $49.44
25 for $46.35
100 for $44.187

Ibasso is going to buy in the thousands so it will likely only cost 80 dollars(or less) a pair.

Opportunity missed?

I'm sure there are many factors when deciding on the new design. But if you are releasing a more affordable (nearly half the price) model with a modular design that is close to the flagship (down to backward compatibility with flagship model amp modules), you need to scale down the performance. Otherwise you will kill the sales of your flagship

1: $7.4412
10: $6.8901
30: $6.6154
100: $6.3389

The 4490EQ is significantly cheaper than the 4497EQ too

Fingers crossed for dual 4497EQ DX180/190 :)

If I were Ibasso and the AK4497EQs could fit into the budget, I'd DEFINITELY step on their toes :p

We need more competition

Good idea, I would have bought the DX150 for sure. I do want to hear the amp6, so I still might.

For the record...the DX200 is about the same speed as most other mid to high end DAPS, except for the Hiby R6, which wipes the floor with the DX200 lol. If you have a large library, and like to flip apps in memory (not really a DAP focus of course)....the scrolling and app switching on the R6 will make you feel like the DX200 is from a past generation of electronics. It's a start contrast in fluidity. The R6 has it's own challenges though, as no device is perfect.

Speed isn't everything of course, and man the DAC implementation on the DX200 is stellar, and the amp output from the amp3 & amp5 are certainly awe inspiring (amp1 not so much). I waste way too much time listening to the DX200 and hearing new pieces of ausio information from my various albums.

The R6 sounds like sh@t compared to the DX200. To my ears at least. Well ok. Not that bad but there was no comparison.

If you want a device to play with apps and do music ...

That’s what iPhones are for.

Oh I know...wishful thinking....hoping for a mid range of the mid range are we...?
One can hope

Mid high range, maybe 650 dollars?

That is true. However, I don’t think people would mind if you release DX200S. The S can stands for an alternative variants (ES9028Pro vs AKM4497EQ). Even if it is priced a slightly more expensive, people would still heads over toes in love because the only DAP that have this configuration is $3.5k.

ESS9028Pros consumes much more than the last gen ES9018S (both are desktop class). If I am not mistaken, the 9028Pro is much harder to implement while AKM4497EQ is less complicated. I still remember the time I was dropping my jaws when seeing DX200 with dual ES9028Pro

Again, I don’t believe Ibasso can’t do dual ak4497EQ, they just avoid stepping on toes

So many comments but nothing about sound quality...maybe sound quality is not excellent as expected, so people are refraining from giving impressions...

Perhaps because not many have received the units yet?
