You also need to update to the 8.1 Android beta for the DX150. Takes it up a notch in sound and response. I was happy and quite surprised and the different. 8.1 is a must.

If you plan on investing on the best AMP modules, then DX150 can sound better.

In the default configuration, DX150 (AMP6) vs FiiO X7mkii (AM03A), DX150 is warmer, and X7mkii is more neutral, and has a wider soundstage. DX150 is smoother overall, and has less treble harshness, but also less treble impact.

DX150 has more potential with the current selection of AMP modules.

X7mkii is also extremely good, especially if you don't want to invest in subsequent AMP modules, where iBasso really created some jewels. For X7mkii, you basically either use it as it is, AM03A, or add AM05, but that's pretty much it. For DX150, you have AMP4S, AMP8, AMP5, lots of other options from the default AMP6, which is a bit colored and special by itself

Try to think what type of sound you'd like. What shape do you prefer. Do you need two microSD slots? There are many things that separate the two...

If @NiVrA wants to use IT04 and DM6, then AMP6 is a great match
If the amps sound that different then they're broken or poorly designed, an amp should be a wire with gain, nothing more, it should not impart its own sound to the output.

In a perfect load world, maybe but different loads affect the sound as does the make-up of the amp. There are capacitance, inductance and resistance and they all have an effect on the amp so matching what works best in this "imperfect" load world is what it is all about.

As @jamato8 said, this is only a hypothetical idea in a perfect world, every single device I heard had some kind of signature to itself, sometimes very close to others, or pretty close to just being a gain adder, while others pretty specific in their signatures

AMP4S was a limited edition George, I don't think you can find a new one. May be a used one if at all anyone wants to sell.

thinking of either getting one of these or a x7ii, Does anybody have any advice?
DX150 all the way. Looks like FiiO has given up on their flagship, no updates and it's dead stuck on Android 5.1 due to rock chip limitation.
If you don't like warmer sound, I would advise to go for DX200.

Thank you so much...no need to buy another amp in that case
