Hey guys! I am wondering if anyone can explain to me how the DX50 stacks up to the DX100.

Say if I can get a DX100 for $200 more than a DX50, is it worth it in your opinion?

Thanks!

The DX100 is better and that would be a very good price for it. It is larger of course but has an airy sound yet has plenty of power for most phones.

Unless you need a long battery life, i'll go for the DX100 anytime. SQ is a lot better.
Sold my DX50 and kept the DX100 :) The DX50 internal amp is mediocre IMO. Not as black as the DX100 :)

You might want to try the DX90 if you have the chance.

I definitely agree that the DX100 is much better with sound quality than the DX50.  The DX90 would be closer to the DX100 but still not quite as good.  But there's tradeoffs.  DX100 is more of a brick and (at least for me) doesn't have the same battery life as the DX90 (which has the benefit of replaceable batteries).  So for pure sound quality the DX100 would be the way to go but if size and battery life are issues for you then I think the DX90 is a good compromise.

Well thanks guys!
Would anyone be able to tell me how much of an improvement I'll have from my Sansa Clip?
Particularly with IEMs!

To be honest, I've never been a big fan of the sound straight out of the Clips.  Could be a different story with an external amp but I've never heard a Clip that way.  I feel that any of the common DAPs now available - X3, X5, DX50, DX90, DX100, etc. - would be an improvement in sound quality over the Clip, though others may feel differently.  The DX100, though, is certainly much better!  I don't think there's any comparison.

Hmm wow 30%? That's crazy.
The main advantage of the DX100 over the other DAPs is the size of the amp, correct?
The larger amp is able to drive more demanding headphones, and make others sound more "full", right?
But even with an IEM that is easy to drive, the DX100 still trumps the Clip by quite a bit?

Yeah.  DX100 sounds very full compared to Sanza.
IEM sounds better on DX100 as well. In terms of sound quality, DX100 is ranked among top 5 portable DAPs in the world.
