hi all,

Would like to share what I have done with my iBasso D2 and perhaps find out what combinations you guys are using.

Changed the silmic caps to Blackgates and Cerafine, I prefer the sound of Cerafine as it is brings in a sense of dynamics/liveliness. Silmic to me has always been slightly warm sounding.

Changed the .1uF decoupling cap across the supply pin to 1uF BG non-polar and MKP 1837 .1uF polypropylene cap. Found this to be the best compromise.

Last but not least changing the default NE5532 (think this is used as buffer) to LM4562/LME49720. I had thought that the slightly lower output current for the LM4562/LME49720 might have some problems for me but it didn't, maybe becos I was using it to drive my UM2.

One thing to note. With this configuration, I find that LM4562/LME49720 does not response well to .1uF decoupling cap across the supply pins. Sounded too aggressive.

Had tried other opamps like AD823, AD827, OP275, AD8620, AD826 OPA2604, OPA2227, OPA2228, AD827, NE5532, JRC 5532, LM4562(SOIC), LME49720 and LT1057.

I had also used single opamps via Browndog adapters like OPA627AP, OPA627BP, AD829, OPA797, OPA27, OPA132 and OPA134.

I have always been a sucker for 627, driven Class A, too bad I can't fit it in and at that low supply voltage, it may not have operated linearly.

Please feel free to share your findings.

Yes the Silmic are noted as good but as you state slightly warm. I don't care for any of the 4562 types. Too HiFi for me and too tilted up.

So what combination are you now using that you like with the new caps? Also those BG's will take a while to form so you won't know the total sound for a while but then I am telling you something you already know.

What differences do you note in the sound?

My thoughts are with you on the Silmic. As for the LM4562, it has really good specs but synergy just isn't there. I found the AD8066 to be a better compromise, with very good deep bass, good 3D imaging/soundstage, mids aren't tubey warm but slightly bright.

My caps have been burnt-in as I have used them in my CDP. Nonetheless, thanks for the advice, I will let the D2 burn in longer and decide from there!
