... and am I the only one continually forgetting to turn off my D16 and then having low battery when I next come to use it? An auto-shutdown option would be good for forgetful people like me

I think it does, if no headphones plugged in, I could be wrong. But I agree, just last night it stayed on all night

yea hahaha, luckily I just plug it to charger and thats it and i play music (thats why I praised 2 usb outs - charging and dac separately, while ago)... and am I the only one continually forgetting to turn off my D16 and then having low battery when I next come to use it? Mine does not power off automatically, twice now I have left it on (no headphones or USB connected) and it has run itself down. Lucky it runs so cool and does not overheat as it's been in the leather pouch and in my bag both timesI think it does, if no headphones plugged in, I could be wrong. But I agree, just last night it stayed on all night

Charging, playing all while in the case it barely gets warm. It feels weird

Basically USB is of it own interfaces. Theoretically what is comming out of USB is...another usb data signals. If there is any other signals out of an adapter then the adapter is doing it own adaptation. Take USBC to 3.5mm dongle as an example, the dongle has it own DAC@Whitigir sorry to resurrect an old post but you said some interesting things about the inherent limitations to USB in this thread that I learned from.
Would you have an opinion on Cayin's USB-C to coax cable - https://a.co/d/6f8feAl? I believe it will feed the coax input of the D16 (when fed from a Cayin DAP) if I'm not mistaken.
Is there any way that this could mitigate the USB compromises you described earlier, or is this wishful thinking?
Coax is an old interfaces from I2S signals which has it own clock accordingly to what the source read and received...because of this I2S will also greatly varies upon the source architectual as timing errors and smear can also occur fro that end. Coax is a better way to enjoy digital signals integrity as it doesnt hace to go through a universal interfaces....but it also has it fatal flaws.
From what i have witnessed, ibasso products has always been very very good in preserving and retrirving coax signals for performances

I believe both the Fiio and iBasso have Coaxial output.Does one of them have Coax out?
You are right, the FIIO has Coax out. You just need to make a custom cable, as Fiio is using the 3,5mm headphone out for that. Fiio offers a cable (P/N FiiO L21), but you have to remove the Cinch connector and solder a 3,5mm Mono (or Stereo) connector on it.I believe both the Fiio and iBasso have Coaxial output.

Pardon my ignorance, what kind of custom cable connections would I need? I’m sure Aliexpress or EBay has some niche cables. You are right, the FIIO has Coax out. Fiio has a special pin layout, the digital signal is on the players ground (first picture):

The 3,5mm Coax in on the Ibasso is as usual, ground goes to the housing, and signal to the tip, like shown on the second picture of the link.

Shoot, that’s oddly jank. Thanks for looking into it for me. I might just grab the iBasso for the simplicity of a plug and play with normal cables.Fiio has a special pin layout, the digital signal is on the players ground (first picture):

I bought the Fiio L21 cable and just soldered the 3,5mm plug on. It is quite flexible (better than the iBasso Coax Cable) and has 75 Ohms impedance as it should be. Soldering the 3,5mm mono plug is a 5 minute job (if you have a soldering iron). Maybe you know someone who can do it.Shoot, that’s oddly jank. Thanks for looking into it for me. I've been using my phone as source with Ibasso otg usb c to usb c with no dramas. Today I've had issues with my new phone, I got an eye phone for some reason, never had an apple product before. Has anyone had issues with connecting the D16 with an eye phone?

I've had a bit of a headache looking at cables for Mojo 2 as it's USB ports do not have galvanic isolation against interference/noise. Which makes it pretty bad for a (mostly) desktop solution.
But the D16 does not have this issue? It's plug and play and it sounds good from USB directly into the computer? I read it has a very black background and introduces no delay making it suitable for games. Seems to have what I want

No problems here with a MacBook Pro...but that runs mostly on batteries. Also fine when the MacBook is connected to USB-C power.I've had a bit of a headache looking at cables for Mojo 2 as it's USB ports do not have galvanic isolation against interference/noise.
