I am looking to get a 20GB HDD DAP for my birthday,
I am tossing up between the iAudio X5 and the iRiver H320.

I can get the H320 cheaper than the X5, both have there pros and cons.

X5 pros:

5 band EQ

FLAC support

Faster vid playback(15fps)

X5 cons:

Lower res screen than the H320

H320 pros:

Better screen than the X5

H320 cons:

2 band EQ.

What I want to know is: does the treble EQ control on the H320 affect the 3k band range as well as the 14k band range or only the 14k range? (I want to know because I turn down the 14k band on my ifp 795 because it is to bright and I make up for it by upping the 3k band.
And how does the H320 sound vs the ifp 795?

Thanks.

The X5 has much better build quality than the H320, and the general consensus (which I agree with) is that it sounds better as well. That's what matters, in my opinion.

I am pretty sure that i am going to get the X5, the only two things stoping me are the low res screen on the X5, is it really that bad?
And the fact that it has a inbuilt Li-ion battery vs the H320s Lithium polymer battery (I have heard that most Li-ion batterys die after about one year).

I have both and the X5 is better. The huge plus for the H100 series and H300 series players is that they have or will have rockbox support.

I'd go for the X5 on sound quality alone, though. If you have good headphones (I have the Super.Fi 5pros and Shure E4c's) then you'll notice a big difference in sound quality.

X5 definately wins on build quality (it has a metal case), but it's more solid and feels a bit more delicate. I'd get the X5L, as the 35hour battery life is unparalleled.

Just want to note also that the video playback on both is just a novelty. The X5's screen is too low res and the h320 only plays back at 10fps making it pretty useless. Both look good for regular browsing, tho.

I used to have an h340 but now have an X5L.

The X5 is much better in my opinion. Better sound, better battery life, better build quality.

Yes, the H3xx does have a better screen but probbaly not that much better as some make out. For anything apart from video playback it is irrelevant in my opinion and video playback on such small screen is pointless anyway.
