iaudio x5- feedback for purchase

Battery life is a problem, but I thought battery life withstood a longer lifespan if you didn't let the battery go much lower than halfway and keep recharging. I probably misunderstood....that happens alot

Anyway, my X5 has a battery life of about 4 hours (I received it in December) right now. To bypass the limited mobility due to a poor battery, I purchased one of those external battery pack charger:

Then I had Hans from Qables replace it with a higher quality 'locking connector' similar to the iAudio end of an LOD. This way I can completely bypass the subpack and connect it directly to the X5. The downside to this setup is the fact that I can only use the headphone out. My personal justification to this is I wouldn't really need to use the Line-Out if I'm being mobile anyway. I calculated my battery to be approximately 30 hours with the battery extender AND the X5's internal battery. So even when the battery won't carry much of a charge, I'll still have about 25 hours of battery life.

I've can't remember reading anything negative about the X5 with an LOD, and want to say that I think I remember somebody giving them solid reviews too.

Running lithium batteries down is BAD for them. They prefer to have a charge maintained and be charged often. Things have changed from the days of NiCd and NiMH. This is likely the cause of your battery woes.
