I was wrong about "The Bends"

OK...I hate doing it, but I was wrong about Radiohead's The Bends.

As recently as a week ago, I was telling Sugarfried at the Chicago meet that I wasn't into Radiohead. He asked if I had heard The Bends...I commented that I had not, but that the singer's voice really grates on my nerves. The few songs other than "Creep" that I've heard have sounded screechy and just plain bugged me.

He seemed to think that, based on this, I would not like The Bends.

The other day, a buddy of mine brought it to work. I've been hearing SOOOOO much raving about this album that I finally gave in and gave it a fair listening.

I was wrong...

This is a pretty damn good album, with lots of nice effects for the headphones crowd. Very listenable...I like it. (ooh...it hurts to say that!!)

Oh well...it's all about the music, right?

It took seeing Radiohead in concert for me to really get into them and stop being so stubborn.

I have to remember to listen to the music, and not the fans.

Glad to hear you had a chance to listen to The Bends. It's one of my favorite all time albums - quite a shock to hear for the first time some 10 years ago now. I wasn't too big on the Creep song, but everything since then has been brilliant.

I just got Hail to the Thief a few weeks ago and it's growing on me.

nice memories of "the bends".

when it came out, i remember getting pretty drunk with a very hot young co-worker at her place, and she put it on. she had just spent the night with me at a bar telling me about her wild sex life, and managed to convince me to walk her home--but her boyfriend was too tired and wasted to get out of bed for what she had in mind so we just hung out. i remember her telling me how radiohead was her favorite band, but she hated the cover of "the bends".
