THe SQ of the Sansa isn't on par with that of the D2 or the NWZ-A818. The UI of the NWZ-A818 is similiar to that of the PSPs if you are familiar with it.

I suggest Signeo Freezing Flash DAP. Hot on the heels of coming out with a few rebranded audio players, AVC has announced something origional with their new Signeo “Freezing” Flash audio player. Supposedly inspired by a reputable furniture designer, only 10,000 units will ever be available
512MB built-in flash memory, MP3/WMA support, built-in FM tuner/voice recorder/line-in encoder, OLED screen, 70×50×7mm (now that’s thin) in size and 40 grams in weight.

Another vote for the A818!

man...finding the perfect DAP is harder than I thought it would be. If only the iA7 had a microSD slot, or the A818 were UMS & had a microSD slot.
What sounds different/bad about the Sandisc Sansa e200 series?

Well if you search the forums, most people say the it has sub par sound quality. Some however say that rocksbox improves sound quality although some disagree. There seems to be alot of disagreement of the SQ of the sansa. If you can, audition it for yourself and see whether it is up to your standards. Also why exactly did you rule out the cowon D2?

Get the D2 if you want excellent sound quality, it has many features and an impressive amplifier (some could say it negates the need for a portable headphone amp its that strong).
User definable EQ raise and lower specific bands, additional bass options for bassheads. A loop feature and speed/pitch function which is a great toy especially when listening to audiobooks or rappers
. There's a very high quality screen for crystall clear video playback (check out the mulit codec support for audio and video!)
A DAB version and FM Radio/line in recording and TV out plus SD slot.
If like me you dont like to constantly take a touch screen out of your pocket to change tracks or adjust vol, dw. The D2 can be controlled by programming the user defined buttons so that you can skip/change track and +/- the vol, with one hand whilst tucked away in your pocket.
Its not all roses though there are some glitches but these are generally sorted out with new firmwares. For a superb sounding mp3 player it should be on your shortlist.

The treble. The mids. The lows. The soundstage. Seriously, if audio quality is any concern of yours, do not consider the e200 series.

Oh yeah Rockbox support...I need to look into that & search Sansa e280 w/rockbox.
As for the D2 or Clix2...I am a tactile user, touch UI is neet an all..I wish I could demo either of them to see if I will like it.
I just found out my dad is getting a Sansa e250 for his b-day, I'll try that out when it arrives.

First impressions of the Sansa e250 .. It is heavy for a flash DAP, compared to my Memorex MMP8640 and my friends Yepp YP-T9J.
Listening to Ultrasone S-Logic Demo CD (LAME -V4) with my SR80's with Flats, no amp, straight out of HP jack.
- Frequency response is meh, a tad warm/dark, highend seems cut low (my SR80's don't sound as bright as they should).
- Soundstage is pretty flat. There is left & right seperation..but hardly any 3D depth.
- UI & controls are very intuitive, except I keep on pressing left or right on the ring instead of the left or right keys (like it were a iPod). But after awhile I got used to the UI & ring.
- microSD slot is a nice plus. In MSC mode the e250 acts like a removable Mass Storage Device with 2 drives (internal memory & microSD slot)
Overall I would not get it for myself, cause of the flatness of the sound, and frequency response. Maybe a op-amp mod would fix that
