I just bought used DT770/80s from my friend to replace my MDR-7509hd. When I plugged them in my laptop they sounded really muddy compared to my mdr. My mdr-7509hd are completely burned in and sound great but I don't get better sound like I hoped with my DT770/80. Also, the volume on the dt770 is significantly low and the highest volume still isn't loud enough. I assumed they were already burned in since I got them used, but I am not sure. I also ordered an iBasso D2 a few days ago which should be here this week. So should I try burning in the DT770 or wait for the amp, or should I just get my money back now? I've been hearing great things about the DT770, maybe mine is a defective. What do you guys think?

If it's from a friend, just tell him about the problem and wait for the amp. When the amp arrives and it still sounds wrong, ask for a refund.

I think you need to upgrade your laptop soundcard! (assuming you have on board sound)

DT-770 is a bad choice for use directly from a laptop, even the 80ohm version. Wait for the amp.
