I know it sounds crazy, but i prefered how the VIA DAC sound over the wolfson on the AV710 with my 2.1 setup.

The VIA DAC sounds warmer, tamer, smoother, but less fidelity and dynamics while the wolfson sounds pretty bright, harsh, but more detailed.

Anyone feels the same way?

If you hook up HD-650 into Wolfson w/o an amp, I'm not surprized at all

Eh, not crazy at all actually. Low-fi sources are often associated with "warm and fuzzy". Without correct impedances (without an amplifier), a higher fidelity source will most definitely sound harsh or bright. (But a PPA is on the bright side of things though...)
