Pep,

what no headphone jack? how do you like the sacd titles? what does the reviewer mean that sacd can only be heard through the 5.1 'analogue' output? sewe Jim's review concerning same.

as to music quality - man it sucks when you upgrade and then find that you have to upgrade your music, too. i heard a cd today on greG's equipment and the first thing i said was, "now i gotta find a different recording of this song..." what do you do when you have three different renditions of Bach's Brandenberg Concertos?

bicake, had i paid $1k for a cd player, i'd now have to get something to do sacd and/or dvd-a. therefore, if i'm getting into it NOW, i'd rather pay $200 for a dvd/sacd or dvd/dvd-a player that does everything like mp3/sacd/dvd-a. my concern then would be the dacs. of the two or three built in dacs, the onkyo/sherwood burr-brown are said to sound the best. and yes, i do know that there are $1k dvd players out there - but progressive scan, et. al. are not things i'm interested in as i am not into home theatre. my 32" toshiba and headphones are all that i want as i can not connect my speakers up & blast them like i used to.

Am i insane, or does anyone else think that the redbook on the nv500s is crap?

I can't stand it if it's bypassed my DI/O. SACD is good though

Why did you have to revive this post?

Upgrading from a pcdp to the sony did make a major difference. However I do find that the sound coming from it is a bit too bright. Too bad I only have a few SACDS so I can't really enjoy what the player does the best. Even then I still think this is a decently priced player even if its just for redbook playerback. Expect for the fact its a little to bright which I find annoying with my new w1000.

So what would you recommand for an entry level redbook player?
