I need some headphones

Well, the 280s are "controversial" headphones. People either love them or hate them. I generally don't recommend them unless the OP can try them out for him/herself.

So, what are the live options now? As far as I can tell, in no order:
1. D1001
2. AD700
3. Q40
4. SR80
5. MS-1

No open/closed prefs, wide range of music, can't try them on, I assume... I'm leaning towards D1001 or Q40s if you can't try any of them on. The 700s have fit isues and the Grado/Alessandros have comfort issues.

you might wanna throw the JVC HA-RX700 and HA-RX900 into the list while you're at it

as well as the ATH A700's

and I know the HD 280's are "controversial", they're pretty cold and straight and whatnot (I didn't dislike them, but they don't do anything for me, so I wouldn't say they're love/hate, like say, for example, SR-325i's)

but yeah, I'd lean towards the Q40's or D1001's, given the 3D wing on the 700's isn't the best for everyone, and not everyone finds the Grado bowls or comfies, to be, comfy, or the HA-RX900's, which are supposed to be equally good in that price range (I know, I'm not making things easy)
