I've been trying to find a nice little sub to compliment my m-audio av40s, i listen mainly to all things rock, I'm looking for a somewhat refined and punchy bass, I don't want just a Booom Booom booom. The BIC f-12 at 206$ Is the highest I can afford. I've been looking at the Polk Audio PSW10 but it being only an RMS of 50 concerns me and it's price of 89$ but it'd allow me to upgrade my soundcard. There's also this Polk Audio PSW110. I'd look into the dayton sub-100 and 120 too if amazon  gets them again. I honestly don't know how big my room is but the sub would be pretty much right under me as it's for my computer.

  I was in the same situation about two weeks ago need some bass fill for my M-Audio BX5a's and someone here recommended an active 10" sub formerly offered exclusively in Europe called the Prodipe pro10S. I found one on eBay for $179 shipped and now I'm thoroughly satisfied. It looks great and sounds even better!  Contact Music Factory Direct, ask will they honor the price I paid including shipping, it's worth a shot.

Wharfedale diamond sw150, is a cheap musical sub, considering the m-audio 's are only 20watts each a 50watt sub would be fine , my speakers are 150watts each and i have a 120watt sub the sub is actually louder than the speakers because it has a much more efficiencent driver, the watts mean nothing unless you know the efficiency of the driver.

JRG the Wharfedale diamond sw150 is like 250$ on ebay, which is effectively out of my reach, as for the Prodipe pro10S, There's one sold by Music factory and i'll ask them. They do Free shipping to the states and to get it ot canada it's like 91$.. Would the cheapo polks work for my setup? as cheaper the better at this point but i don't just want boomy.

The Wharfedale diamond sw150  is a cheap option here in the UK  , the prodipe 10s is double the price £300 rougly $500 here the prodipe is the much better sub the prodipe will be much better than the polks.

The shipping ot Canada takes the proclipe's out, so it'd be down to Dayton's *" 10" subs those polks and the bic f12 unless there's other nice priced subs out there ( for us canadians). Due note i'd be buying the polks, dayton or bic from the states.

If your willing to build your own you can get a great sub for pretty cheep, and it's really not that hard to do.....I built one with a Dayton RSS265HF driver, and imo It sounds pretty good for the price. =]

oh? how much would it cost for like a little 100W one and what would i need?

You would just need the driver, a plate amp, a sheet of 3/4 inch plywood...and some tools to cut the wood ect (depending on ported / sealed...for ported you would also need PVC pipe) I would say it would probably be about $150 -200 for a pretty high quality sub ~ 100W, but you could always go cheaper too. check out parts express. You can model how a certain drivers will preform in different size boxes using winisd, and the driver parameters (which parts express should give you) http://www.linearteam.dk/default.aspx?pageid=winisd. http://www.diysubwoofers.org/ is a great place to learn more about it. =]

If you are on an even lower budget, I recommend the Dayton subs. They come in 8, 10, and 12 inches. Look them up at partsexpress.com. They have outputs needed for active speakers/monitors like the AV40.

I'm looking into the lava subs too atm, reviews have liked them and the price isn't bad, i can afford the 10" sub only because they'll cover the taxes and duties to ship it up here to canada.
