K701's or 702's are a good choice in your price range but you should use them with an amp--I own beats studio and pro detox, denon 7000, akg 999 wireless-k701's, grado rs1's and gs 1000's, polk 800's, sennheiser 650's, bose 15's (which by the way are excellent for listening to computer or iphone applications but they due lack durability if carried around all the time but are in your price range), beyerdynamic t1's among others and I find myself quite often going back to the 701's---what kind of music are you listening to mostly?

Closed or open headphones?
What source(s) are you going to be plugging the headphone into?
Are they for music only? movies? gaming?

Sennheiser Amperior or HD 25-1 II in your price range.

In my place, we directly compare the Beats against M-50s (Audio Technica).
There are already 2 customers who wanna buy the Beats initially and turned to M-50s.
