You might like Michael Nyman, who is slightly more experimental than Hans Zimmer. Download his composition "Fish Beach" and see what you think.

I'm gonna throw it out there that I think Gladiator should be your highest priority. It is in the upper tier of his work.

Zimmer's Crimson Tide OST is some of his best work.

I am also a very big fan of his work. My top favorites have to be Pearl Harbor, and The Last Samurai.

A few others that come to mind are The Rock, Gladiator, The Prince of Egypt, Black Hawk Down and a lot more. In general I don't there isn't one piece of music that i dislike from him. You can also go on iTunes to search him and listen to clips of the tracks yourself.

^Wow thanks a ton guys. I actually have the Black hawk down cd but haven't gotten to it yet. Right now I'm going through every Pirates of the Caribbean soundtrack and loving 80 percent of the music

I'm kind of assuming you've seen all these movies. Is that the case? I think I would have trouble getting into a soundtrack if I hadn't already seen the movie it goes with. But then if I'd seen the movies, I'd already know if its soundtrack resonated with me.

I guess I just see the approach of searching out soundtracks by composer to be a bit backwards. I prefer just to watch movies--maybe even seeking out a movie by composer, if you are so motivated--and then go acquire the soundtracks that struck me.

There's nothing more heart grabbin' than movies w/ catchy scores and of course anime as well. :] I thought Se7en had some pretty good, awe, utter disbelief inspiring tunes going on at the end let alone the creepy acting by Kevin Spacey. The guy nailed it imo.
