Boy was I glad the mower was hot when it happened.
So how long do you think it will take before its safe to start it up again? I left it outside to air out and hopefully it will evaporate quickly. Some of the spill got inside the mower, maybe I should inspect the air filter before using it again (don't know if there's even one)?

err, i spill gasoline on my mower a lot when I overfill it...
I still run it and it evaporates quickly enough
(don't listen to me though as this is proabably the the idiot thing to do)

Yeah, I always accidentally splash it around when I fill our mower up. I always just start it right back up when I do, even if it's hot, and (knock on wood) it hasn't blown up on me yet.
I wonder if I should go start it up. I did spill quite a bit, about 50mL.

you have 24 hours
*edit* I spill gas all over my mower all the time, it's never had a problem.

I'd say fire it up. The gas evaporates quickly and, fortunately, the engine is internal combustion

I think this is a question for Merton. From what I understand, he's cut a bunch of yards...

I've seen gas boil on a hot car engine manifold
. I don't worry too much about it on a lawnmower. It does evaporate really fast. If you are nervous about it wait for 20 minutes and it will be all gone. Of course by the time you went in the house and posted here it was already all gone.

LOL. I am with chadbang on this one.
Seriously, wait at least a couple of hours before firing it up, and then have at it.

I fired it up again later today and surely the fire department had to show up shortly up after.
Just kidding.
Everything was fine and I really wanted to cut the grass today. It's not that much work anyway.
