The Rats were one of those bands that were played a bit on college radio in the U.S., but were very popular in the U.K.

Anyway, I picked up a copy of "The Fine Art of Surfacing" the other day, and it's a good CD. It sounds much better on my new gear than on the "crap-fi" setup I had back in college.

Fun stuff if you've never heard it. The only song that got much airplay in the U.S. was from this album: "I don't like Mondays," which was very controversial because it was based on a tragic shooting spree comitted by a teenage girl. Not unlike Pearl Jam's "Jeremy" many years later.

The CD is very well mixed, and a good headphone listen. Highly reccomended if you like esoteric stuff like Bowie, Talking Heads, Alan Parsons. The Rats don't actually sound like any of these other artists, but if you like them, you'll probably like the Rats.

Any other Boomtown Rats fans out there?
