I've just been doing straight into my soundcard, since they are already pre-powered. 
 
What can/should I do to make them sound even better than they do now?

Experiment different positions for your speakers, your furniture and your listening position.
Use EQ to flatten the FR at you listening position.
Treat your room acoustically.
