My new toy: The SA5000s have been dissappointing me in their lack of bass. Where is it? Well, with some help from CookieFactory.. I have been able to come up with some settings that will bring out the bass on your SA5000s too!

First off, I'm using FooBar v.0.8.3

I am using the Convolver + Foobar's EQ. One by itself is not enough to bring out SA5000's bass... but together they make the bass oh so sweet!

Go to : http://www6.head-fi.org/forums/showt...ight=convolver
and get the http://photo.head-fi.org/data/500/More_R10_Bass.asf file
That's the convolver file, make sure you rename it to zip and unzip it.
Credits to Edwood + Iron_Dreamer
(Don't forget to change to level adjust to -10.0dB)

Now open up your foobar EQ and use these EQ settings: (from left to right)
[0] [-5] [-9] [-12] [-14] [-15] [-15] [-15] [-15] [-15] [-15] [-15] [-15] [-15] [-15] [-15] [-15] [-15]

Now... Combine them!
Now these phones are exibiting enough tight accurate bass to move the earpads against your head!

Yeah!

MINUS 15 dbs!!!??? across the spectrum? Holy cow? That looks like ALL bass.

I remember demoing Irondreamers sa5k with his dynahi. He instructed me to kind of rotate the headband so its tipped back a little over the hair-swirl on my head. I for one didn't find them lacking in bass at all... but maybe he had an aggressive EQ curve dialed in too

Anyways... enjoy, I really like those cans.

just wait a bit more and the bass will kick in time...you will reset that eq back to default in no time

Well, if you think his settings provide too much bass, perhaps you should look to his sig. :p

i always thought that the sa5k had more than enough bass, that was fast and tight. based on those settings, it looks like maybe you're better off with something like the dt770. i remember the first time i heard those, the bass impact made my eyes blink.

sweet moses that was just wrong. I only tried the EQ, but man that really pushed the smiley-face EQ to the limit. The SA5000 doesn't have the best mids to begin with, you don't need to drown out what's left with bass thump.

Sometimes I wish the SA5000 in it's normal state had less deep bass and a little more mid/upper bass, but it's by no means lacking as it is.

Nope, no EQ at all, you were just hearing good ol' KG high-current/dampening-factor magic at work there

I've tried using those R10 bass EQ's I made for Ed with my headphones, and they are just too bassy for me. Just about right for the R10, of course since I was making them in real-time while listening to the R10.

What soundcard are you using? Right now I am using foobar 0.8.3, ASIO dll, no EQ, coming out of my stock E-MU 0404, and then coming out of my SR-71 amp. I find that the bass is nice and deep, and tight with the SA5000's. The 0404 is a bit colored, but not to much where it gets fatiguing!

You might also want to EQ down the the frequnecy plateau in the lower treble.

The SA5000 has great bass, but like many of Sony's top end phones, it's just a little quiet, that's all.

lowering everything 15dB except for one or two frequency bands is basicly the same as leaving them all at 0 and raising those two 15dBs, might be less work adjusting it that way. Just a thought.

I get massive distortion that way

I've been tinkering with another setup:

Convolver settings+

[0] [-6] [-11] [-15] [-18] [-20] [-20] [-20] [-20] [-20] [-20] [-20] [-20] [-20] [-20] [-20] [-20] [-20]

I was worried this kind of extreme EQ would kill off the sound quality
I was *dead* wrong

More bass with no distortion WHATSOEVER

The bass battle: Sony SA5000 wins over AKG K701
SA5000 has tighter bass, and doesn't distort when pushed farther

I just went to the foobar site downloaded v0.9.1

I don't see a convolver option under the 'file' -> 'preferences' -> 'playback' menu . there are only 2 submenus, 'dsp manager' and 'output'. I can configure the equalizer settings in the dsp manager but there is no 'convolver'?

Can some one help me out?

thanks.

Try Foobar2000 v0.8.3
I had nasty bugs with v0.9.1
It didn't list convolver for me either for 0.9.1, I'm guessing they made it an add-on download

Convolver comes included on v0.8.3

the official foobar site doesn't have v0.8.3 anymore.
Where would I find the files to download?
