That is one thing I was scared of when buying these. The cable noise. Although most of the time will be sitting listning to these I do play golf and warming up I would like to use them. Is teh cable noise really that bad?

A xin amp with bass boost makes them great for hip-hop too I think. Without the bass boost I feel they lack a little bass quantity to get it groovin' all the way..
The clarity is oustanding. They do tend (in my system) to get a little harsh in the highs with some recordings as someone else stated.

Regarding cable noise /microphonics:
You just have to find a good way to have the cables not dangling around too much. Some are putting the cables behind the ears. Others have gotten custom molds for them and that should help alot too. I just use the clip attached to my shirt and the cables going to my ears are "floating in the air" not giving too many problems. They ARE pretty microphonic but you'll work around it pretty easily I think -and it's a small price to pay compared to what you get

No. Use the supplied clip to attach the cable to your collar or in between the buttons of a button-down shirt. You'll have ZERO cable noise.

One more question, I download my Mp3's online through a wireless connection. I know it won't be CD sounding quality but is it going to have a big impact on the quality?

Nope you should be just fine. The nice thing about digital is that 1's and 0's travel nicely through the air so what is on the server is what you get on your end after the download. What I suggest is that you try to stay above 192 kbit/s because Etys reveal EVERYTHING.

My advice would be: Wait and see what you get first before you start thinking about an amp. I don't know what player you intend to use. But the ETY's will do fine I'm sure. If you want to go amped then it will bring up more if you want to get the most out of it; line out from your player, Interconnect & amp..

Ety ER-4Ps, nice Xmas gift. MS Zune, another nice gift. 32 LCD TV another nice gift.

Let me guess. You’re 16 years old, and spoiled rotten.

To minimize the microphonic tendencies of the ER-4Ps try wrapping the wire up and over the top of your ears and down the backside of the ears. It feels strange at first, but you get use to it. It kills almost all of the cable noise.

I wouldn't quite say spoiled, only at Christmas time. I am 15. I get good grades and don't do drugs or drink. I'd say my life is pretty good.

Anyways thanks for the advice. I'm glad I went with the Etymotics I was a little ify at first but now after hearing your guyses opininions it sounds like I made the right choice.

You’re not spoiled? Any one of the three gifts that you’ve mentioned in this thread would have been too extravagant for Christmas gifts when I was fifteen, and we weren’t poor. What fifteen years old needs a 32” LCD TV in their bedroom? I believe that if a kid is given everything that they want they ultimately end up not appreciating what they have, at least not as much as if they had had to work for it.

I’m sorry for thread crapping. I’m turning into an old curmudgeon.

Whether someone is being spoiled or not is really a relative thing

Count yourself as one of the luckier ones and enjoy your presents! 32" LCD televisions aren't that pricey anyway

I'm eyeing a Zune as well! Be sure to post your impressions when you get everything.
