With all the tube love, I figured it was time for a valve amp. I went for the 6N1P Morgan Jones thinking it might pair well with K1000s. Turns out it’s too weak for K1000s but excellent with my 580s. What I perceived as The Veil ™ disappeared.

Wondering how a tube amp could unveil high freq, I got together with Sassysound to listen to his new M3 amp and CD player. We did side-by-side comparisons with the M3. It turns out my cheap output caps and the tubes heavily rolled off the high freq. However, I can now turn up the midrange volume without a prominent HF piercing my ear drums.

So a tube roll off effectively boosted the upper mids, and “removed” the 580 veil. It's much more listenable now.
A totally unexpected result.

Anyone else have a similar experience?
