Hi all,

Well today I did a very dumb thing. I noticed that one of the pieces of the 'frame' of the headphone was a little bent.

https://i.imgur.com/8a6Yj4K.png - imagine this part being slightly curved downwards instead of its usual shape.

Well my dummy self thought I could just bend it back slowly thinking it'd be no harm, till I heard a snap.

Without a doubt I broke it, I thought it'd be fine, but as soon as I put my headphone on I noticed there was no sound on my right speaker.

That's when it dawned on me what the actual purpose of that 'frame' was.

Shame me all you want, I deserve it for not knowing what it actually was, but I feel bad that my 6-8+yr partner was just offed by my own stupidity.

I thought it was a complex 'hard' cable but seems to be just a pure solid block of metal of sorts by the looks of it (being hopeful here)

I dunno if I should just call AKG and mail it to them to service it or have some third party repair specialist to replace that one piece. Maybe if 'removing' the black film could be done then just melt solder in what I would presume is the cracks would fix the issue, but honestly I'd also just be down to replace the piece entirely.

Thanks in advance.

Thank you for contacting Harman Support. I'm sorry to hear about your AKG Q701. Unfortunately, we do not ship out parts of your product. I advise you to check on the nearest service center but it would be at your own cost. However, we do have a 1 year warranty in all of our products. If we determine that your unit is within warranty, we can be able to send out a replacement. Kindly send the following:
  • Photo of Proof of purchase (Receipt or Order Confirmation)
  • Photo of the serial number (ex. AA0000-AA0000000)
  • US Shipping Address (PO box and APO not allowed)
  • Contact number
Once we have validated that the unit is within warranty using the details you have provided, you will receive an email from returns@harmanaudio.com with the details of the replacement order.

Well so much for that. Guess I'll ask for where the service centers are located.

Yeah bout that.

Thank you for getting back to me. Unfortunately, we do not have service centers in the Philippines and the service centers located in New York do not have any available parts for your unit. I'm really sorry for the inconvenience. I suggest you have it checked in the nearest local electronic shop within your location for further options. As a consolation, let me provide you with a 20% discount code ( ) for your next purchase through. Note that this code is only applicable on our main official website harmanaudio.com and can be used with all Harman products such as JBL, Harman Kardon, AKG, Infinity, etc.

The email address that had responded was hcgcustomersupport@harman.com.

I remember way back in the day (2015ish or so maybe?) there was this one 'hookup' email from AKG for this one particular person who provided earpads. GRANTED that was earpads not 'repair parts or servicing" haha.

I dunno if phone call will provide any more luck.

PS if anyone actually wants that coupon code since I won't be using it, feel free to PM me.

Yeah, I doubt the phone call is worth the time. Maybe your solder idea will work. Crazy to have a vital connection in something that fragile. You might post something here with AKG Repair Needed or some similar subject line in case it catches an expert's eye.
