I recently got a new Hermes smartphone, and it has all these amazing abilities and fairly sharp design. The one thing it doesn't have is a dedicated headphone jack. Instead, you have to use their supplied earbuds which terminate in a mini USB connection. I haven't used factory-supplied headphones in over a decade, and after hearing what came out of the supplied buds, I probably will never even bother attempting again.

Does anyone know where I can get a good USB -> 3.5mm converter? Do they even exist? Perhaps a high quality one could be fashioned with an amplifier as well? I suppose the potential is there to get a pretty clean digital signal out from the USB jack.

I did a bit of poking around and found a couple of leads:

Martin Fields Enhanced Mini USB -> 3.5mm

Motorola Mini USB -> 3.5mm

Another blah-looking and expensive converter

None of them looks to be made with high-quality parts, but then again, the sound chip on the Hermes probably is pretty lackluster as well. I like the right-angle design of the Motorola, but I've heard the pin configuration isn't correct for the Hermes.
