I currently have an Emotiva mini-x a-100 and HE-500 setup and am in need of a DAC new or used for $100 or less. Which one of these would be superior in this specific rig?

Bump. Would like to know if the hrt ms2 would be a good choice at $87

At $500 the MS HD is an amazing unit.
 
I'd have no hesitation with the MS II for $87.
 
Schiit makes a great product too.
 
Honestly I'd go between those two, and practically speaking looks are going to be the biggest difference.

Well I could buy a modi at $80 or the ms2 at $87.

Which on looks better? Are you going to put it in a location where one fits better? Does having the USB port on the same side as the outputs matter? Would it be better if they were on opposite sides?
 
Those are going to be the biggest factors. Practically they will both have the same sound quality, I can't imagine you would be able to tell the difference between the two.

Okay, thank you for your help! I've decided to just go with the modi. I have tried it just yesterday and it paired well. It also looks sleek although it is used with a few scratches :/.
